This signed mid-century necklace from West Germany is a stunning example of postwar European costume jewelry design—rich, dimensional, and undeniably dramatic. The pendant features an ornate layered medallion centered around a brilliant faceted aurora borealis crystal, prong-set in bold dog-tooth settings that reflect shifting tones of sapphire, violet, and gold under the light.

Surrounding the central stone is a halo of soft creamy faux pearls, framed by elaborate gold-tone filigree and accented with amber navette and topaz round rhinestones for added warmth and fire. The piece balances elegance and opulence, resulting in a necklace that glows with movement, light, and color from every angle.

The chain is equally detailed, composed of alternating textured links and filigree stations, finished with a secure spring-ring clasp and original “Made in Western Germany” hang tag. With only gentle age-appropriate wear to the metal finish, this heirloom-quality necklace remains in beautiful vintage condition.

Collector's Note

West German jewelry of the postwar era is prized for its refined craftsmanship, layered filigree, and premium hand-set stones. Signed examples in ornate medallion form, especially with original components intact, have become increasingly collectible. This piece is an ideal example of the era’s “romantic maximalism”—a fusion of rich color, dimensional metalwork, and artistic construction that sets West German jewelry apart from American and Austrian designs of the same period.
